Dio oggi: note a margine del recente convegno di Roma (8-10 di-cembre 2009)
Abstract
In this paper I make some comments on the Congress "Dio oggi. Con Lui o senza di Lui cambia tutto", held in Rome, 8-10/12/2009. I consider the relation of Massimo Cacciari on the presence of atheism in Christian religion and I point out that such a claim would lead us to a Gnostic vision of God's Essence, in which it would be possible to find both the evil and the good. I therefore support a perspective like the one outlined by Robert Spaemann, whose intention is to explain how we can fit together omnipotence and goodness in the "simplicissima Dei essentia". I observe that such a strategy may be traced also in traditional Thomism. The last paper I examine is the one by cardinal Camillo Ruini, who showed the perennial validity of the demonstrations of God's existence. After having described cardinal Ruini's presentation of the topic, I underline the necessity of the recourse to metaphysics even for a presentation of religion which aims at being rational and at convincing contemporary people.
